November 06, 2006 Fidelis Security Systems and Pavisor Team to Stop Data Leakage at Federal Government Agencies |
| BETHESDA, Md. - Nov. 6, 2006 - Fidelis Security Systems, the authority on extrusion prevention, and Pavisor, Inc. today announced they have teamed up to stop the loss of sensitive, confidential, classified and personally identifiable information (PII) from U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) networks. The two companies have entered a partnership that grants Pavisor exclusive rights to market and sell Fidelis Extrusion Prevention System® (Fidelis XPSTM) to the DoD and its contractors, resellers and consultants. By combining PavisProtectTM privacy assessment services with Fidelis XPS, the two companies will provide the DoD with the most powerful tools of their kind available in the marketplace.
Data leakages, or extrusions, from federal government agencies and the associated risks of identity theft have risen sharply in recent years. In October, the U.S. House of Representatives Government Reform Committee reported that all 19 federal departments and agencies experienced at least one data leakage since January 2003. These agencies did not always know what information was lost or how many individuals were affected. The report detailed hundreds of leakages of sensitive personal information stemming from employee carelessness, contractor misconduct and third-party thefts. The number of individuals affected in each incident ranged from one to millions. PavisProtect provides federal agencies with clear, documented evidence about where data leakages are happening or from where they could occur. All data leakage alerts are captured and summarized in a 20-page report, which includes details such as event timestamps, source/destination IP addresses, and packet capture replays including the actual communications from which the leakage occurred. The report also provides recommendations for improvement. Pavisor engineers hold Top Secret clearances. "During the past 18 months, we've conducted nearly 100 data privacy assessments across the United States, and not one site was immune to vulnerabilities," said Eric Gore, president and chief executive officer for Pavisor. "We needed to expand our arsenal of tools with a reliable extrusion prevention solution that is both highly accurate and easy to install and manage. After completing an exhaustive technical evaluation, we're pleased to offer our DoD customers and partners Fidelis XPS." Fidelis XPS prevents data leakage across all channels on all ports on the network at gigabit speeds. A uniquely powerful rules-based approach to identifying privacy-sensitive information eliminates the need for time-consuming and unreliable data registration. Organizations can manage and enforce policies regarding use of the network with unprecedented granularity of control. Fidelis XPS is a network appliance that fits seamlessly into existing IT infrastructure with minimal impact, requiring no configuration changes to network devices, servers or desktops. "We have a strong history of helping federal agencies stop data leakage and mitigate the risk of identity theft with Fidelis XPS," said Mark Miraglia, Fidelis vice president of worldwide sales. "Our relationship is centered around Pavisor's ability to help DoD security experts actively assess their vulnerability to data loss. Their assessment regime coupled with FidelisXPS will yield unparalleled knowledge required to mitigate data leakage risk."
